Are you looking to enjoy the flexibility of substitute teaching but not sure which type of certification you’ll need in New Jersey? Don’t worry! We’ve compiled a list of all the NJ substitute teacher certifications for you.

Why get certified?

Expands your placement options

Generally, charter and public schools in New Jersey require you to have a substitute teaching certification before you start subbing. Some private schools and teaching assistant positions won’t check for it. Even so, getting your NJ substitute teaching certification allows you to apply for substitute positions anywhere from Newark to Salem.

No need for a basic skills test

Getting certified as a substitute teacher is simple. Since the state of New Jersey has no basic skills requirement, all you need to do is apply online and pass a background check.

This is the substitute teacher credential that Scoot Education typically asks for when we hire subs. If you’ve graduated from an accredited 4-year college or university, apply for this NJ substitute teacher certification regardless of your level of experience. Cost of application and processing time

Next, you’ll submit the application and pay the $125 processing fee. It takes 6-8 weeks for your credential to be processed and issued.
