How to become a sub in Arizona

Take these steps to access school positions in general education, special education, admin support, and support staff.

If you need help with the application, feel free to reach out to your local team.

Step one

Submit your application and required documents.

For the state of Arizona, you’ll need to:

  • Have a high school diploma
  • Provide 3 professional references including at least one supervisor
  • Obtain an IVP fingerprint clearance card (we reimburse up to $67 of the cost)
  • Obtain a Substitute, PreK-12 Certificate to maximize teaching opportunities. This is not required if you already hold a state certification.
Step two

Jump on a quick phone call with a Scoot Education consultant.

Expect to briefly go over your certifications, if any, and prior experience working with students.

We’ll also ask what you’re looking to get out of teaching and what schools or grade levels you’re open to subbing for. That way, we know how much work is available.

Step three

Go through a more in-depth virtual interview.

If it seems like we might be a good fit, we’ll schedule a longer conversation to really get to know you, your needs, career aspirations, and more.

Step four

Get onboarded as a substitute educator and meet your designated consultant.

We onboard you as soon as you pass the interview and we receive all of your required documents. You’ll be introduced to your designated consultant who will support with all of your future bookings, questions, and professional development.

Step five

Set your availability on Scoot2Work.

Utilize our handy dandy app to set exactly when you want to work and for how long. You also use this app to let us know each morning that you’re Ready2Work to grab any last-minute school bookings.

We’ll consider distance, preferences, and school aspirations to handpick opportunities that match with what you’re looking for.

Have a
question?

We’ve got you. Find fast answers in our FAQ.

When do I get reimbursed for the background check?

Expect to receive your reimbursement via your first paycheck when you start teaching with us.

But if you’re located in California and get your background check at a Wellnessmart, we cover the fee upfront. There is no out-of-pocket expense to you.

How do I prepare for the interview?
How do I find out what schools you partner with in my area?

The best way to find out is by calling your local office. Your local consultant can provide more information on whether or not we operate in your neighborhood.

Do I get to see available assignments and choose my own?

You won’t be able to search for assignments through the Scoot2Work app, you will be contacted directly first by phone, email, and text message.

At Scoot, we believe the best way to put the right teacher into the right classroom is by carefully selecting which teachers are invited to fill each vacancy and that’s why we don’t offer a select-your-own approach.

Are there any paraprofessional opportunities?

Many of our school partners request paraprofessionals! Call your local office to find out if there are a lot of parapro roles in your area.
