Working as an SLP or SLPA with Scoot
Our SLP application process will ask for documentation such as:
- Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Sciences and Disorders
- Active California Speech-Language Pathology license or eligibility for Clinical Fellowship (CF) placements
Schools are also looking for SLPAs! Let us know if you’re interested. While the role responsibilities are different, you’ll still receive the same Scoot support.
We use the phone screening and/or interview stages to go over your experience and assess whether our school-based therapy roles match what you’re looking for.
We’ll discuss:
- Preferred locations and commute
- Age groups and caseload preferences
- Schedule needs (full-time, part-time, or short-term)
- Compensation expectations
- Career goals
We’ll guide you through required onboarding steps to ensure you have a smooth and efficient start.
Scoot onboarding steps include:
- State licensure verification
- Background check & fingerprinting
- TB test & immunization records (if required)
- I-9 & employment documentation
Your Scoot Consultant matches you with schools aligned to your experience and preferences. Once placed, Scoot provides:
- Ongoing consultant support through regular check-ins
- Support navigating school systems
- Access to additional opportunities within your school network
- Advocacy to ensure your assignment is the right fit
- Assistance with extensions or future placements

SLP requirements vary by state and school partner, but typically include:
- Active state SLP license
- ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) (often preferred or required)
- Department of Education credential or school certification (if required locally)

- Active SLPA license or registration
- Required supervision agreement with a licensed SLP
- Compliance with state supervision ratios and documentation requirements

Yes. Scoot ensures every SLPA placement includes a qualified supervising SLP and adheres to state supervision requirements. We help coordinate supervision expectations and documentation responsibilities.
School experience is helpful but not always required. Clinicians with pediatric, clinical, or early intervention backgrounds may transition successfully into school settings.
Our team helps determine fit and prepares you for the school environment.
Scoot SLP assignments can vary but may include:
- Articulation and phonological therapy
- Language development and comprehension
- Social communication support
- AAC implementation and support
- IEP service delivery and progress monitoring
- Collaboration with teachers and special education teams
Your assigned consultant will share assignment details, so you can decide whether or not you want to be placed.
This will be role dependent, but SLP responsibilities generally include:
- Writing and updating IEP goals
- Progress reporting
- Participating in IEP meetings
- Completing therapy documentation
SLPA responsibilities vary and are guided by supervising SLP direction and state regulations.
